How to Trust Yourself and Embrace Self-Love

6 月 10, 2025

Learning to love yourself and trust your intuition can be one of the most transformative journeys you embark on. This might sound a bit daunting, especially if you’ve spent a long time ignoring or doubting your inner wisdom. But I’m here to share with you how this shift can truly change your life, and I promise that healing and reconnecting with yourself is possible.

A Personal Story: Breaking Free from Negative Patterns

For years, I struggled with unhealthy dieting habits. Disordered eating was a cycle I couldn’t break—counting calories, bingeing, purging. It felt like my life revolved around trying to control my body in ways that weren’t nurturing at all. I did this because, as an actress and dancer, I felt like I had to look a certain way to be valued. My worth was tied to how small I was.

I’m sure many of you can relate to feeling pressured by external expectations. We let outside voices dictate our choices—about what to eat, how to look, how to live. As a result, our intuition is drowned out by these influences, making it hard to hear what our bodies really need.

The good news is that you can start changing this narrative. By learning to reject these external messages and reconnect with your intuition, you can break free from self-destructive habits and begin embracing radical self-love.

Reconnecting with Yourself: A Journey to Trusting Your Intuition

My journey to self-love and trusting my intuition began when I was diagnosed with cancer. That wake-up call made me realize how far I had drifted from listening to my own body. It wasn’t about blaming diets for my diagnosis, but rather recognizing how disconnected I had become from my true needs. I was living by what others expected of me, making it impossible to hear the signals my body was sending.

Once I started tuning in, everything shifted. I began to focus on nourishing my body with whole, real foods and became kinder to myself. I stopped obsessing over every bite and started respecting my body. I became a true friend to myself—a practice that continues to be the most healing part of my journey.

It’s not always easy, and I still have moments of self-doubt, but that’s okay. Loving yourself is a process. The key is to minimize the negative self-talk and prioritize kindness. Here are some practices that have helped me tap into my intuition and embrace self-love. These are the same practices I still use whenever I feel out of alignment, and I hope they help you as well.

Take Time Away from the Noise

When you start reconnecting with yourself, it’s essential to take a break from external influences. We live in a world full of conflicting opinions, and it can be overwhelming. Whether you’re facing a big decision or just trying to regain clarity, give yourself the space to tune out the noise.

This could mean stepping back from conversations that aren’t helping you find your own answers. For example, if you’re considering a new job, and a friend keeps pushing their own opinion on you, kindly ask them to hold off while you figure things out. The same goes for technology—social media can be full of negative messages that cloud your judgment, so unfollow accounts that make you feel bad about yourself.

Taking time to disconnect can give your intuition the chance to speak up without external interference.

Listen Without Judgement

Once you create the space to listen, you may be surprised by what comes up. But it’s important to listen to your intuition without judgment. Whether it’s through journaling, meditating, or simply sitting in silence, allow yourself to hear what’s truly inside without criticizing or dismissing it.

At first, listening to your intuition can feel uncomfortable. You might hear things you don’t expect, or you might feel unsure of what to do with the guidance you receive. But as you practice, you’ll find that decisions become easier, and you begin to feel more aligned with your true self.

The best part? Your intuition will never steer you wrong. It won’t bring you down or tell you you’re not enough. It’s a loving guide that wants the best for you.

Seek Balance Between External and Internal Guidance

Once you’ve learned to listen to your intuition, it’s important to strike a balance between external advice and what feels right for you. It’s okay to listen to others, but don’t let their opinions override your inner wisdom. Trust your gut more than anything else.

For example, as someone who follows a plant-based lifestyle, I often share the benefits of vegan eating. However, just because I advocate for it doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for everyone. My goal is to encourage people to eat more whole foods, but ultimately, only you can know what’s best for your body. Trust yourself above all else.

Your Inner Wisdom Is Always There

Home isn’t just a physical place—it’s the feeling of peace and safety you create within yourself. The more you nurture this connection, the easier it becomes to access your inner wisdom. The more you listen to yourself, the more aligned you’ll feel with your true essence.

I encourage you to make space for listening to your body and soul. It’s not always easy in our busy world, but prioritizing your well-being will lead to more joy, health, and fulfillment.

The process of self-love and trusting your intuition is not a destination, but a continuous journey. As you move forward, remember that every step you take in this direction brings you closer to the vibrant, empowered version of yourself.
